School Board Names Interim Superintendent

The Hutto ISD Board of Trustees held a special meeting Friday, May 5, and appointed Deputy Superintendent Ed Ramos to serve as the district’s Interim Superintendent beginning June 9, 2017.

The appointment comes as current Superintendent, Dr. Doug Killian, prepares to assume the role of Superintendent for Pflugerville ISD.  Dr. Killian’s last contract day with Hutto is June 30, but his last working day in the district will be June 8. That date will be Killian’s last school board meeting.

“Knowing that our district is headed into a period of transition, the Board of Trustees is confident that we selected an interim superintendent who is capable and up to the challenge,” said Board President, Connie Gooding. “Not only will Ed Ramos guide us, he will continue to inspire our community with his positive leadership and community involvement.”

Ramos has been with Hutto ISD since 2005 and has served as Deputy Superintendent since 2015. In 2010, prior to Dr. Killian being named Superintendent, Ramos served as the Interim Superintendent for half the school year. In addition to Deputy Superintendent, Ramos has served Hutto ISD as Business Manager, Director of Finance and Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations.

“I appreciate the Board’s confidence in me,” said Ramos. “Great things have been happening in Hutto ISD under Dr. Killian’s leadership, and we want to make sure we maintain that momentum. It’s our teachers and staff that make our district one of the most desirable school districts in Central Texas. I look forward to also working with our community partners as our district and community continue growing.”

Killian will start with Pflugerville ISD beginning July 1. During his seven years in Hutto, Hutto ISD became one of the fastest growing school districts in the state. He credited Ramos with having the district in a great place prior to taking over in 2010 and has confidence that the same will happen this time.

“In my seven years of working with Ed, I’ve found him to be a model servant leader who loves the Hippo Nation,” said Killian. “Ed is a wonderful choice as interim superintendent. Because of the great work he did as interim in 2010, I was able to step into the district and hit the ground running. He helped cut my learning time in half.”

The Board is expected to begin reviewing proposals from superintendent search firms soon. A time line for hiring a new superintendent has not yet been set.
